STARKVILLE, Miss. — A longtime Mississippi State engineering administrator will serve as interim dean of the Bagley College of Engineering.

Bagley College of Engineering Assistant Dean Robert A. Green will serve as interim dean, succeeding former Dean Jason Keith, who was recently named provost at Iowa State University. Green assumes his new role on August 1.

“We are confident that Dr. Green will help us maintain the momentum of the Bagley College of Engineering and provide consistent and effective leadership,” said David R. Shaw, MSU provost and executive vice president.

“Dean Keith has created tremendous momentum in the college, and we greatly appreciate his leadership that has stimulated the growth the college has seen. It is important to have someone step into the interim role who shares that vision and is not a candidate for the position while we search for the right person to take the college to even greater heights.”

Shaw will immediately begin the election and appointment process for the composition of a search committee, which will be chaired by MSU College of Business Dean Scott Grawe.  Shaw said a search firm will be hired and an aggressive national search will be conducted to bring in a visionary leader for the Bagley College of Engineering.

Green has served as assistant dean of the Bagley College for the last five years. Before that, he served as undergraduate coordinator for 21 years.

Green earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a master's degree in mechanical engineering, both from Mississippi State. He also has a master's in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He earned a doctoral degree in public policy and administration at MSU.

The registered professional engineer previously was the chief test engineer and manager of the field operations team with MSU's Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis Laboratory. His areas of expertise while at DIAL were gas analysis, stack sampling and other EPA test methods, infrared pyrometry, the design of intrusive probes for measuring specific parameters in harsh, high-temperature, particle-laden environments, and the design of experiments.

Green is the former president of the National Society of Professional Engineers and is a decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy.
