Sadie Morris, a geosciences major from Greenwood, Indiana, will receive financial aid and an internship opportunity with the national weather broadcasting service, which includes mentorship from FOX Weather meteorologist Jane Minar. Morris is the third award recipient thanks to a long-term partnership created in 2021 between the university and organization.

“It has been such an incredible honor to work alongside Mississippi State University in cultivating the next generation of meteorologists, and we’re thrilled to welcome Sadie to our successful program,” said FOX Weather President Sharri Berg.

At MSU, Morris participated in the university’s National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society student groups. She served as the 2024 technology committee chair for the Southeast Severe Storms Symposium and previously interned for Indianapolis FOX affiliate WXIN-TV and CBS affiliate WTTV-TV. In 2023, she earned MSU’s Meteorology Chapter Travel Award for her passion and pursuit in atmospheric science.

Morris is expected to graduate in 2026.

“Words cannot fully express how grateful I am to be the next recipient of the FOX Weather Scholarship,” she said. “This opportunity is an honor that will allow me to learn from the best professionals this industry has to offer to help shape me into the meteorologist I have always dreamed of becoming.”

Recipients of the FOX Weather-MSU scholarship are preferred to be an undergraduate with a proven academic achievement record of a 3.0 GPA or higher. Inaugural scholarship recipient Haley Meier joined FOX Weather as an on-air meteorologist upon graduation in 2023, and last year’s recipient Mark Kimoto will serve as an intern this summer, working in the network’s New York headquarters. FOX Weather’s Marissa Torres and Craig Herrera served as Meier and Kimoto’s mentors, respectively.

FOX Weather is a 24/7 ad-supported streaming service operated by FOX News Media. The platform builds upon the network’s expansive newsgathering units and TV stations’ added resources with a combined 120 meteorologists for a comprehensive suite of weather products.

Demonstrating a long-term strength in the field of broadcast meteorology, MSU has graduated the largest number of degree-holding weathercasters nationwide. The renowned research led by MSU’s Department of Geosciences also contributed to the university’s designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Geospatial Sciences by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the U.S. Geological Survey in 2015.
