STARKVILLE, Miss.—From a flute recital and percussion ensemble to a piano recital and brass quintet, Mississippi State’s music department is hosting a variety of studio events through the end of April.

All free and open to the public, events this week include:

—[Monday] April 15, 7:30 p.m., Flute Studio Recital, Recital Hall, Music Building, featuring the Flute Studio, Flute Choir and Woodwind Quintet.

—[Tuesday] April 16, 7:30 p.m., Oboe Studio/Double Reed Quartet, Recital Hall, Music Building, highlighting members of the Oboe Studio and Double Reed Quartet in several ensemble combinations.

—[Saturday] April 20, 12 p.m., Percussion Ensemble and Steel Band, Choral Hall, Music Building, with additional high school programs from throughout the state. This is part of a symposium which also includes presentations by guest clinicians and MSU faculty.

Also scheduled for the following week are:

—April 22, 7:30 p.m., Jazz Ensemble, Recital Hall, Music Building. Descended from the MSU Stage Band founded by Dr. Kent Sills in 1967, the ensemble will play a wide variety of big-band jazz including swing, blues, hard bop, cool, Latin, funk and fusion.

—April 23, 7:30 p.m., Faculty and Student Brass Quintet, Recital Hall, Music Building, mixing standard quintet literature and pops selections.

—April 29, 7:30 p.m., Piano Studio Recital, Recital Hall, Music Building, featuring a diverse repertoire representing different periods and styles.
