STARKVILLE, Miss.—Two Mississippi State College of Business students have been recognized as Wholesale and Specialty Insurance Association Top 10 interns after successfully completing a nine-week internship rotation last summer.

Jackson Joyner and Russell Sceroler, both senior finance majors with concentrations in risk management and insurance from Madison, were among 25 students selected nationally by WSIA for a five-week underwriting and four-week brokerage internship rotation. At the end of their internships, they were selected as Top 10 interns after excellent evaluations from their host firms and mentors.

Seth Pounds, director of MSU’s Risk Management and Insurance Program, said Joyner and Sceroler represented the program and university “exceptionally well.”

“They both took advantage of the opportunities the RMI program provides,” Pounds said. “We are extremely proud of Russell and Jackson and look forward to seeing all they will accomplish.”

As Top 10 interns, Joyner and Sceroler received $5,000 scholarships and an invitation to attend the WSIA Annual Marketplace, a gathering of insurance professionals in San Diego, California. At the conclusion of the marketplace, the interns were interviewed for the J.H. Blades London Experience, a three-week opportunity overseas to continue learning about the insurance market.

Joyner was one of only two students selected for the intern experience this June at Lloyd’s of London, one of the world’s most well-known insurance marketplaces.

Formed in 2017, the WSIA serves the wholesale, specialty and surplus lines insurance industries through regulatory and legislative advocacy, networking and education and career development programs.
