STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University’s Starkville and MSU-Meridian campuses are being impacted by winter weather and will continue to operate through remote operations on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Students should continue to login to Canvas for course information from instructors.

Severe winter weather has made driving conditions hazardous in Central and North Mississippi and are expected to continue to impact transportation Wednesday [Jan. 17].

Employees who can work remotely should do so. Designated employees who are instructed by their supervisors are required to work in person on campus. MSU’s Operational Guidance may be viewed at https://www.emergency.msstate.edu/guidelines/op-guidance.

Faculty, staff and students are urged to use caution to ensure personal safety. The university will make an announcement Wednesday by 5 p.m. about the status of the institution for Thursday, Jan. 18. Monitor the MSU website and social media for updates. Monitor local news outlets for changing conditions and advisories.

Starkville campus residence halls remain open. For students and staff on campus, Marketplace at Perry Cafeteria will be open from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. PODs in Hathorn and Dogwood will be open from 5-10 p.m. Maroon Markets in Griffis and the Wise Center are open 24 hours.

Mitchell Memorial Library, Longest Student Health Center, Colvard Student Union, and the Sanderson Center will be closed Wednesday. Students are urged to use caution as they move around campus. Sidewalks and outside stairs will be extremely slippery and most likely covered with ice in some areas.

Everyone on campus should be mindful of ice sheets and chunks sliding off building roofs as the ice begins to thaw. The university recommends staying inside as much as is practical.

Due to the possibility of icy roadway conditions, SMART service will be suspended Wednesday, [Jan. 17]. Updates can be found at www.smart.msstate.edu and through SMART social media outlets.
