STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State students are poised for success—in part thanks to generous donations from Tennessee Valley Authority and Starkville Utilities.

A Student Success Kickoff Carnival Tuesday [Aug. 15] from noon- 2 p.m. in Old Main Academic Center will provide incoming freshmen with printed copies of their class schedules and a chance to meet with an academic representative and learn about various campus resources and organizations. Hosted by MSU’s Center for Academic Excellence, the event is designed to help students kick off the year with a strong start.

Equipment donated by TVA and Starkville Utilities also is provided with the purpose of helping students prepare for a successful semester. This includes several iPads and $2,500 in support of MSU’s Center for Academic Excellence.

Assistant Vice President for Student Success Eric Moyen said the university is very appreciative of the support.

“For students unable to afford a computer, the iPads will help when they visit the Center for Advising and need to access Canvas or Banner to complete their assignments or register for classes. The donation for the Student Success Kickoff Carnival will help tremendously as we have a day for first-year students to review their schedules, ask questions they might have, and visit with multiple offices and organizations from around campus who are committed to helping students succeed at MSU,” Moyen said. “Starkville Utilities and TVA are making a difference for our university and our community, and we are so thankful for them.”
