Parking permits linked to license plates for upcoming year

Parking permits linked to license plates for upcoming year

For the 2023-2024 permit year, all permits will be digital and linked to your license plate. Physical permits will no longer be used.

With the license plate serving as the permitted credential, it is imperative that the number be correctly entered during the permit purchasing process and that the license plate be visible from the parking lot drive aisle so that the enforcement vehicle can scan the license plate. For your convenience, vehicle and permit management can be done on your parking portal at myparking.msstate.edu.

A repositionable windshield sticker will be mailed to those who purchase a gated permit. This permit is not a valid parking credential, only a gate activation device. These permits will be shipped to the mailing address provided as part of the purchase process.

Faculty and Staff qualify for the following permits:

—Staff: Valid in Staff, Commuter and Maroon Zones

—Gated Staff: Available as spaces become available to those on the gated
waiting list

—Parking Garage North Permit: A limited number of permitted spaces in the North Parking Garage are being made available to students, staff and faculty this year. These permits provide a guaranteed space in the garage throughout the year.

—Maroon Permit: A reduced price permit that is only valid in the Maroon Zone

You may register for your parking permit online beginning July 12 at 8 a.m. Staff permits are $200, Gated Staff permits are $500, Parking Garage North Permits are $850 and Maroon Permits are $150.

All benefits-eligible employees obtaining a permit may select to enroll in a pre-tax payroll deduction payment program during the registration process. Employees who have enrolled in payroll deduction will see a charge for the parking permit on their Accounts Receivable account for a temporary period,
until the semi-monthly payroll process is run.

All permits must be purchased online at www.myparking.msstate.edu.

Reminders

—All vehicles must have a valid digital parking permit linked to their license
plate.

—Current-year permits expire on Aug. 10. A 2023 permit must be used for gated access beginning Aug. 11.

—You may only purchase one digital permit, but the permit can be linked to two vehicles, with only one being parked on campus at any one time.

—A license plate must be visible from the drive aisle. If the license plate is not readable by our enforcement vehicle, the vehicle is subject to receive a citation. For those wanting to continue to back into a parking space, we offer custom MSU license plates that can be installed on the front bumper and are linked to an active parking account.

—Any permitted vehicle may park in any legal space between 6 p.m. 7 a.m. except in spaces designated Handicap, Exclusive Service, Service Parking or Reserved.

—The Maroon permit is only valid in the Maroon zone.

—Any permit is allowed in the Maroon zone.

—For staff who would like to be added to the gated waiting list, you can do so
on www.myparking.msstate.edu.

—Gated parking permits are non-transferable. If you wish to withdraw from the gated parking program, contact Parking and Transit Services. The next person on the waiting list will be assigned.

—The gates will not operate if you make multiple attempts to enter the gated area using the same permit, without an intervening exit.

—The gates will not operate if a pedestrian attempts to use a permit. A vehicle must be present for the gate sensors to operate.

Transit and alternative parking

The Starkville MSU Area Rapid Transit (SMART) operates routes on campus and in the City of Starkville with an additional route connecting MSU and the City of Starkville to the Golden Triangle Regional Airport. Routes offer direct access from various areas in the City of Starkville to multiple locations on campus.

These routes are designed to link off-campus housing, retail, recreational and parking areas to campus as an alternative method for campus access. For more information on SMART, please visit www.smart.msstate.edu.

Handicapped and disabled parking

To park with a permit in a campus handicap parking space, Parking and Transit Services must verify that the state issued handicap placard was issued to the permit holder. For verification, the permit holder can upload the state issued accessibility documents in the online parking portal or bring them to the
Parking and Transit Services Office in the Roberts Building.

Designated motorcycle parking

Motorcycles parking on campus must have a valid permit. We offer designated motorcycle parking spaces that are strategically placed throughout the campus.

Motorcycles are not allowed to park at bicycle racks. Motorcycles may park in designated motorcycle parking areas, or any valid parking space and must obey all state laws. Registration of your motorcycle permits must be completed in person at the Parking and Transit Services office, located in the Roberts
Building.
