STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State is once again a member of Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Honor Roll, a distinction recognizing the Magnolia State’s leading land-grant university as one of the most welcoming institutions of higher learning for transfer students in the country.

Transfer Honor Roll

MSU is among 208 U.S. colleges and universities joining PTK’s 2023 list, and this year’s inclusion marks the sixth consecutive year the prestigious international honor society for associate degree-seeking students has celebrated the school for its admissions, cost of attendance, campus life, recruitment practices, student reviews and other transfer-related metrics and efforts.

“The goal of most students attending community college is a bachelor’s degree, but few do because of financial barriers and the complexities of the transfer process,” said Lynn Tincher-Ladner, PTK president and chief executive officer. “We are proud to recognize the exceptional colleges and universities that go above and beyond to create accessible pathways to bachelor’s degree completion for community college transfer students.”

One-third of MSU’s total undergraduate student population in the 2022-23 academic year enrolled as transfer students. Approximately 1,223 new transfer students enrolled at the university in the last academic year. Of those enrollees, 75% received scholarships, which totaled almost $5 million.

The Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost, financial aid options, admission practices and bachelor’s degree completion. The list was based on analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse and on data submitted through MSU’s profile on PTK Connect the organization’s online tool designed to help students find their best-fit colleges and career pathways.

Colleges completing the PTK Connect profile are given a Transfer Friendliness Rating. The Honor Roll is chosen from among the top 25% highest-rated colleges.

Spotlighted at the 2022 American Council on Education conference, PTK’s Transfer Honor Roll recognizes the importance of creating strong transfer pathways that lead to excellence and success among transfers.
