Mississippi State University and the Search Committee for the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Director of the university’s Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station invite interested members of the campus community to attend public presentations by each finalist.
There will be four opportunities for MSU Faculty, Staff and Stakeholders to meet the candidate. There will be two opportunities at the Starkville campus on Tuesday, Dec. 16. There also will be opportunities in Jackson and Stoneville on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
The candidate will provide two different presentations with one in Starkville on Dec. 16 and one in Stoneville on Dec. 17.
Those interested are welcome to attend one or more of the meetings and are encouraged to observe both presentations. All meetings and presentations will be available in person and virtually. Please review the candidate’s itinerary for locations, times and links.

Candidate Two: Dr. Karen Coats
Dr. Karen S. Coats currently serves as Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she also has served as a Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences since she joined USM in 2014. She previously served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Professor of Biological Sciences at Mississippi State University. She joined MSU as a faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences in 1990, and also spent many years as an adjunct faculty member with the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine research program.
Dr. Coats has a Ph.D. in veterinary medical sciences (virology) from Louisiana State University. Her master’s in biology (microbiology) is from Southeastern Louisiana University, where she also earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology.
