STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Department of Music is hosting its annual Music Discovery Day event Nov. 1 for prospective music and music education majors and their families.
Oct. 30 is the deadline for online registration at www.music.msstate.edu/discover.
Registration is free for attendees, who each are allowed one guest. Face coverings will be required indoors for all. Participants will need to obtain a visitor parking pass through MSU Parking and Transit Services, www.parkingservices.msstate.edu/visitor-parking.
Music Discovery Day will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Kent Sills Band Hall, recently dedicated to the former MSU professor and Famous Maroon Band director from Kosciusko.
High school juniors and seniors, as well as community college students, will have opportunities for one-on-one visits with faculty members and current students. In addition to learning about the department’s academic programs, scholarships and music-related career opportunities, participants will observe music classes and attend faculty and student performances.
Jason Baker, Music Discovery Day coordinator and MSU professor of percussion studies, said the daylong event is the best way to get a firsthand view of being an MSU music major.
“Sessions led by both faculty and students will provide information on the nuts and bolts of admissions, scholarships and courses, as well as perspectives on life both on campus and in Starkville,” said Baker, who also serves as arranger/coordinator for the MSU Drumline and recruiting coordinator for the Department of Music.
