STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Theatre MSU and Blackfriars Drama Society present “Red” by American writer John Logan at McComas Hall’s Mainstage Theater this week.
Theatre MSU is the producing organization of the Department of Communication’s theatre concentration, and Blackfriars Drama Society is a student theatre organization.
The production will take place Thursday [Jan. 28] through Saturday [Jan. 30] with curtain times each night at 7:30 p.m. COVID-19 guidelines, including face coverings and distanced seating, will be required.
The play follows the story of Mark Rothko as he’s commissioned to paint a series of prominent New York murals and works with his young assistant, who ultimately challenges the artist. Rothko ultimately struggles with both ambition and vulnerability.
Described by the New York Times as “intense and exciting,” Logan’s “Red” received six awards—including Best Play—at the 64th annual Tony Awards in 2010 at Radio City Music Hall.
Tickets are available at www.events.msstate.edu and attendees are encouraged to “pay what they can.” Tickets also are available at the door, but advance reservations are preferred.
