STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State celebrates learning experiences around the world with a range of free activities taking place next Monday-Friday [Nov. 13-17].
The university’s International Institute, Richard E. Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, Office of Study Abroad and Center for Student Activities are co-sponsors of International Education Week 2017.
Among others, the scheduled events include:
—Monday [the 13th], 6 p.m., Colvard Student Union Art Gallery. An hour-long reception for “Pieces of the World,” an exhibit of photographs from throughout the globe taken by MSU student travelers who will be on hand to share their experiences.
—Tuesday [the 14th], 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Colvard’s Bill Foster Ballroom. A come-and-go “Study Abroad Expo” providing extensive information on available options and including a sharing of recent travel experiences by student participants. Pizza slices and prizes will be available.
Also Tuesday, 3-4 p.m., Colvard Room 330. “Conversation Connections,” an ongoing gathering organized by the English Language Institute and MSU Globetrotters, at which U.S. and international students, faculty and local community representatives discuss cultural topics and current events.
—Thursday [the 16th], noon-2 p.m., Memorial Hall’s Coskrey Auditorium. A group of international students will compare and contrast routine daily life in their home countries and the U.S. Lunch will be provided.
Two special daily offerings during the week include:
—11 a.m.-1 p.m., Marketplace at Perry Cafeteria. “Delicious DestiNATIONS,” the Holmes Center/MSU Dining Services-sponsored introductory of a favorite food item from different countries. Depending on the day, the menu selection will represent Greece, Japan, Italy or Morocco.
—8 a.m.-5 p.m., 116 Allen Hall. An International Institute-sponsored “selfie photo booth” with global-themed backdrops and other fun props for social media images to be posted via hashtags #MSUGlobal and #IEW2018.
