MSU Department of Art announces 2017-18 scholarship recipients

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Ten students in Mississippi State’s Department of Art are receiving scholarships for the new academic year.

Part of MSU’s College of Architecture, Art and Design, the art department is home to the Magnolia State’s largest undergraduate studio art program. It offers a bachelor of fine arts degree, with concentrations in graphic design, photography and fine art (ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture).

Residents of Mississippi, Alabama and Maryland, this year’s recipients include (by hometown):

CLINTON—Carly A. Melton, daughter of Kelly and Beverly Melton receiving a $1,500 Del Rendon Endowed Art Scholarship; and Gerald A. Wicks, son of Corky and Paula Wicks receiving an $800 Van Bristow Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Both are MSU seniors and Clinton High School graduates.

COCKEYSVILLE, Maryland—Freshman Hanna R. Bewley, daughter of Jay and Rebecca Bewley receiving a $3,000 Beverly B. Gulmon Memorial Scholarship. She is a graduate of Dulaney High School.

DECATUR, Alabama—Senior Phoebe L. Fitzgerald, daughter of Thomas Phillip and Penny Elizabeth Vaughn Fitzgerald receiving a $1,000 Tramel Memorial Endowed Scholarship. She is a Master's Hand Christian School graduate.

MADISON—Freshman Elaina G. Hart, daughter of Roy and Gayle Hart receiving a $3,000 Beverly B. Gulmon Memorial Scholarship. She is a Madison Central High School graduate.

OLIVE BRANCH— Senior Jeffery B. Daniel, a DeSoto Central High School graduate and son of Jeffery and Shannon Daniel receiving a $1,500 Del Rendon Endowed Art Scholarship, $1,500 Ferretti/Karnstedt Endowed Scholarship and $1,000 M. Ashley DuBoise Endowed Photography Scholarship; and freshman Sarah G. Steen, daughter of Adam and Sarah Steen receiving a $1,000 William Pittman Andrews Endowed Scholarship. She is an Olive Branch High School graduate.

SALTILLO—Freshman Savannah M. Alley, daughter of Robert and Angela Alley receiving a $3,000 Beverly B. Gulmon Memorial Scholarship. She is a Saltillo High School graduate.

TUPELO—Matthew B. Rogers, a Tupelo High School graduate and son of Jeff and Janya Rogers receiving a $1,000 Tramel Memorial Endowed Scholarship; and Shannon D. Shepherd, daughter of Sheila Shepherd receiving a $1,500 Ferretti/Karnstedt Endowed Scholarship. Both are MSU seniors and Tupelo High School graduates.
