‘Tis the season’: Criss Christmas Concert next week at MSU

STARKVILLE, Miss.—To help launch the Golden Triangle’s 2016 yuletide season, the annual Criss Christmas Concert will take place Friday [Dec. 2] at Mississippi State University.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in historic Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium, the free performance by the Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra is being sponsored by the campus Lyceum Series.

Barry E. Kopetz, MSU music department head, will conduct. Featured soloist will be Sherri Falcone, the orchestra’s principal clarinetist and an MSU clarinet and saxophone instructor.

Selections for the evening include Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op 21,” Bach/Cailliet’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” Styne’s “Let it Snow!” Vaughn Williams’ “Fantasia on Greenselves,” Gounod’s “Petite Symphonie (Movement II. Andante Cantabile),” Weber’s “Concertino for Clarinet” and a traditional Christmas medley.

The concert is made possible by generous support from the J.W. Criss Foundation to the Starkville-MSU Symphony Association and MSU Lyceum Committee.
