STARKVILLE, Miss.—As the 2016 U.S. presidential election nears, an exhibit titled “Roots and Branches: An Exploration of American Democracy” is being featured at Mississippi State’s Mitchell Memorial Library.

Including selections from the university repository’s vast collections, the free display may be viewed 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays through mid-November inside the Special Collections and nearby Stennis-Montgomery rooms on the third floor.

In addition to Special Collections, visitors will find items from MSU Libraries’ rare books, Mississippiana and archives departments, along with the Mitchell-based Congressional and Political Research Center and U.S. Grant Presidential Library.

“Highlights include state papers from the United Kingdom and United States, correspondence of an early ambassador to Denmark, ballots from Mississippi and New York and numerous books by and about statesmen,” said Brad Moreland, one of the event’s coordinators.

Editorial cartoons, campaign signs, bumper stickers, T-shirts and other related political memorabilia also may be seen, he added.
