White Cane Awareness Day
Laura Isom, a junior elementary education major from Hernando, moves through an obstacle course Tuesday [Oct. 15] as part of national White Cane Awareness Day, an annual event recognizing the ways that people with disabilities contribute to society. MSU's National Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision hosted an informational booth that included the obstacle course, the opportunity to write names in braille and a free vision testing table. NRTC Director Michele McDonnall and Assistant Research Professor Jennifer L. Cmar discussed employment opportunities for blind people in a recent article published in The Conversation.
